The thicker cord (rope) is used for the suspension of the wind chime. Multiple knots of this rope need to be made to lock in the other individual pieces – Two small terra cotta bells and three terra cotta beads. In all 6 knots at intervals are required to be made and components needs to be inserted between two knots.
At the lower most end is the small bell followed by a terra cotta bead. This is repeated again in the same sequence. At the top of the wind chime, a final knot is made (refer to diagram).
Care needs to be taken that the central small bell is at a height midway between the chimes. This ensures that the quality of sound and timbre is melodious.
